Interventional Neuroradiology (INR PABA):

Interventional Neuroradiology (INR PABA) is a new branch of Medicine which deals with  Diseases of blood vessels of the human brain and spinal cord.  It is minimally invasive Neurovascular Surgery which cures some of the most complicated , fatal and crippling diseases of blood vessels of Central  Nervous System with minimal trauma to human body.

In the past either there was no treatment, or  if treatment was attempted morbidity and mortality were prohibitively high.  With the advent of these Interventional Neuroradiology techniques  and ' STATE OF ART ' Neuro- Cath Labs (INR PABA) diagnosis and treatment are possible with very low risk.

Stroke is the most common condition treated by INR. INR deals with the plumbing of the brain. Diseased arteries are opened or closed, temporarily or permanently as required. Diseases  in which diseased  blood vessels are closed are: Aneurysms, Arteriovenous malformations, Arterio-venous fistula, Carotid-cavernous Fistula, Tumors which have a lot of blood in them like meningiomas, glomus jugulare, or tumors of the spine.  etc.  Diseases in which diseased arteries are opened are those which cause ischemic stroke due to loss of blood supply, similar to heart attack.

In acute ischaemic stroke THROMBOLYSIS is done in which the blocked artery is opened within minutes or hours of the onset of the attack by injecting medicines or by retrieving the clot blocking the artery.0-3 hours INTRAVENOUS CHEMICAL , 3 -6 hours INTRA-Arterial THROMBOLYSIS and 6 -9 hours MECHANICAL THROMBOLYSIS can be done.

Stenting for stenosis of carotid or vertebral arteries, intracranial small and big arteries like the carotid, anterior or middle cerebral or basilar artery is done to treat acute stroke and prevent them.

Spine and Spinal Cord Conditions which can be treated by INR (PABA) include : AVM of Spinal Cord (SCAVM), Spinal Dural Arterio Venous Fistula (SDAVF), Vascular Primary and Metastatic Tumors and Fractures.

Vascular Diseases of Central Nervous System in Children : apart from Aneurysms,Arteriovenous malformations there are some specific vascular diseases in children which can be treated by INR (PABA) : Vein of Galen Aneurysmal Malformation , Pial Arterio-venous Fistula ,Dural Sinus Malformations, Spinal Cord Arteriovenous  Fistula, Para vertebral Arteriovenous Fistula and Traumatic Vascular Conditions.

Tumours which have a lot of blood supply can be made blood less so that subsequent surgery is bloodless.

Vertebroplasty where the vertebral body is filled with bone cement is done for painful fractures and bloody  tumors like hemangioma.
